EAA Chapter 1563

This chapter was chartered in 2015, and meets at the Rollin’s hangar 3rd Saturdays at 11 AM.  We have some form of fundraiser pancake breakfast, ice cream social or something like that depending on weather.  Check out our website at https://eaa1563.org, where you’ll find a form to join the email announce list, and everything else about the chapter!

This organization, though no longer active, was instrumental in bringing attention to the historical and economic value of the airport to the community.

Amateur (HAM) Radio

We have an amateur radio repeater installed and operating at Bluebird Aerodrome, AKA the Rollins’ hangar, sponsored by Elmer Scott KF4UCI, with Fred Dean and Mike Colburn N4HRO contributing time and money, as well as Fred Rollins as the host.

At right two GAPS members Fred (top) and Mike (N4HRO – side) work together with the repeater’s sponsor Elmer Scott to install the new repeater on the roof of Bluebird Aerodrome. Bluebird Aerodrome is located next to the Gordonsville Municipal Airport and the site of the GAPS (Gordonsville Airport Preservation Society) meetings.

The 70cm (444.400mhz) repeater can be accessed at 444.400 mhz with a tone of 151.4hz. This repeater is open for public use and will also serve as a training station for any HAMs in the area that want to practice and learn HAM radio operations. It also is available for emergency communications.

Cub Scouts

Gordonsville Muni, supported by several members of the EAA Chapter, hosts an annual Cub Scout Aviation Day, which is a collaboration of several Cub Scout groups.  The event includes aircraft demonstrations, activity booths, opportunities to earn merit badges, camping, and more.
